Quake Champions is now free-to-play, offering another hero shooter alternative

Another hero shooter based off a classic first person shooter campaign is now free-to-play on PC.

During Bethesda's annual [Quakecon convention keynote](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wd87p39jcQo), developer id Software [announced](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmQJmifneCU) that the latest entry in the https://alternativeto.net/software/quake/ franchise, Quake Champions, will now be free-to-play permanently, more than a year after it exited beta and entered Steam Early Access.

Quake Champions is a first-person shooter with the series' trademark movement mechanics, but with influence from the modern hero shooter trend most popularized by titles such as https://alternativeto.net/software/overwatch/.
