Slack acquiring Astro and shutting down Astro’s independent apps

Users of the email and calendar service Astro may have mixed feelings over the news that Slack has purchased the service.

Slack is aiming to integrate the intelligent email and calendar features that Astro is known for into its flagship Slack service. Astro has announced that it will be discontinuing the standalone Small Astro iconAstro app for Android, iOS, macOS, Alexa Voice Service, and Slack on October 10th. New users are no longer allowed to sign up for the service.

On the acquisition and how it will impact Small Slack iconSlack as a service:

"We've taken some steps to make it possible to integrate email into Slack, but now we're in a position to make that interoperability much simpler and much, much more powerful."
