YouTube rolling out miniature picture-in-picture player

Google is rolling out a new feature to the built-in video player for its video sharing network YouTube.

Select users of Chrome OS and Safari on macOS are discovering that they have a brand new "miniplayer" icon in the lower right corner of the video site's player. This icon allows for videos to be played back while browsing the site in a "picture-in-picture" format.

The miniplayer function is available to users that sign in a private browsing window on compatible web browsers. As of this post, only Small Google Chrome OS iconGoogle Chrome OS and Small Safari iconSafari on Small macOS iconmacOS are compatible, but this is sure to change imminently.
